    My dad has been talking about one of these type of sharpeners for a while. He resharpens their knives (and mine), as well as shovels, cane knives, machetes, anything with a blade. His brother was getting ready to send off all his knives for deer butchering to be resharpened, and my dad told him he'd take care of it instead. I figured this would make a good early Christmas present for Dad, and he loved it. I had trouble setting it up, but Dad's watched so many YouTube videos by now that he barely needed the instructions. All of the skinning and butchering knives have a new edge, and my dad loves his present.

    I have worked with my hands all my life, and I like sharp edges and good tools. I want a really sharp edge, but don't obsess about exquisitely sharp. I'm not a "knife guy", and if you think you know more about sharpening knives or other edged tools than I do you are probably right. That said, I know a good tool that gives good results when I use one, and this is a good tool. If you want to be a knife guy or feel the need for optimal results there are $400 alternatives.Starting from really dull I was able to get a good edge on my first knife, a cheap chef's knife I experimented with, in about 30 min including learning time. Second knife was a paring knife and I got an edge that would shave the back of my arm in 15 min. 3rd knife was a decent German chef's knife and this one came to a shaving edge in about 15 as well, so I think that 10 min is maybe a target with more practice.My opinion is that what you do with the coarsest stone is critical, no amount of time with the finer stone...More

The burr was invisible but felt as a slight catch on a finger nail dragged perpendicular to the edge. Read the manual, and keep at this until the burr is consistent along the full length of the edge.Once I had a good burr with the coarse stone I spent maybe 10% of the total time with each of the finer stones. Same drill, work until to you feel the burr the full length and produce one on both edges, one edge at a time of course. Don't forget the final really soft pass down each edge to remove the burr before moving to the next stone or finishing up.I did not flip the knife a lot, once for each edge per stone. For the first knife I used a magnifier to look at the edge to see what it looked like, and I saw the stones removing many imperfections left by my prior "kitchen gadget" sharpeners. After the first one I felt comfortable that I could tell by feel what was happening.I sharpened at 20 degrees and used a protractor app on my phone to find the angles. Worked fine. The base has a fixed 15 degree angle, so what you want to do is set the angle on the stone holder to an additional 5 degrees to get you to 20. A degree or so either way makes no difference unless you are really trying for optimal instead of just really good. Google sharpening angles if you want advice on different angles for different applications, what you use the edge for matters. Some complain that the blade holder does not deliver an identical blade angle in both positions. It looked identical to me, and I got edges I could shave my arm with, so this again is not a big deal unless you need optimal.The stones that came with it did a fine job, but I plan to spend $19 for the diamond stones recommended by the experts because they are claimed to be better, longer lasting, faster.There are many people selling this sharpener under different names, but you can tell from the pics they are all rebranding the same tool. Buy the cheapest one.If you are not comfortable working with your hands you may find this a bit intimidating at first, but there are many good videos and it's easy to learn to use. Read the short manual carefully. You can do this.Tighten "everything" down well, not forgetting where the rod screws into the stone holder. If you see anything slip / twist / wobble it is not tight enough. The thumb wheel screw is not going to tighten enough unless you gently put some pliers on it, but you really don't need to use it, just swap in the allen headed set screws.I'm completely satisfied and plan on giving some of these as gifts to family members who like to cook.

    I've purchased at least half a dozen knife sharpeners over the past couple decades. All were flawed. I ended up making my own of similar design to this one that worked well but didn't offer the convenience of knife rotation. There were options, of course that cost several hundred dollars and have stellar reviews. This sharpener has all the features at a fraction of the cost.Setup is easy and will produce a very nice edge.The only issue I had; one of the stones became detached from the plastic base. I used super-glue to reattach it and have had no other problems.

    There is a lot to consider when using this device. I give it 5 stars because the general design and construction are great, but, the stones that come with it are basically garbage. I knew that going in and already had good quality stones which cost significantly more than this whole kit. Proper set up and angle measuring is crucial, but when used properly, this is a very easy effective tool for getting as sharp of blade as you're willing to work for. I finish with 8000 grit stone, then with a leather strop with polish compound. It still takes a lot of work to get a perfect edge, but this device is satisfying to use.

It works well on kitchen knives but can also be used for scissors, shears, lawnmower blade, etc. the slight curve in some kitchen knives is okay - those are still “straight blades” and will work okay.The tool can seem a little fiddly at first until you learn how to use it but the instructions are decent and you will find good Youtube instructional videos if you just search for it by name.The construction is solid. Good stainless steeland the parts are strong enough. The overall design is good but I wish they had included better set screws with larger handles for solid finger tightening. You do need to keep an Allen key handy for adjustments, which is a pain when you are trying to dial in just the right angle.     there are a bunch of videos online showing how to use/setup this product. Most of them are completely nuts. I’ve seen people try and show this thing with half the parts installed backwards.That being said... the manufacturer has a decent video that if you pay attentions gets you were you need to be.I’ve seen a bunch of testimonials that also show using your cell phone to get the angle... yeah... I dunno about that. I just use the sharpie method.When it comes to sharpening... this is likely one of the easier systems I’ve used. Well... easiest to use that provides excellent results. I’ve had other “easy” systems... but they don’t produce an edge was well as this.My hunch is that this system would be spectacular with the diamond stones but the “regular” stones that come with it work really well. I am curious how long they may last... I’ve had to flatten them a couple of times already.

    Like how controlled the sharpening process is with this tool.Takes away the human error on holding the exact angle.Wish that they would labeled the stones on the side rather than on the face where it wears off. Maybe even small storage box for all the stones. The black plastic mounting strip on a couple of the stones were loos and needed to be hot melt glued back on.

I was put off by the high price but I spent much more to find out this one is the easiest to set up and use and does the best at sharpening.It's very well engineered and of excellent quality!     My wife got me one of these as a surprise and I love it. It's addicting getting that perfect edge. It's easy to use once you get it set up. Using an app on the phone to set the angle is a little doubtful. I might get one of the devices I've seen online to help with that. Small knives are tricky. I've done a paring knife but a pocket knife of the same size wouldn't be possible.

    For the price, I am really pleased with this product. After the initial set up it is easy to use. Sharpening your knives is a process. The stones need to be cleaned (wiped off) after every other pass. The knives I sharpened are like razors.

    I have gone thru a few of these types of knife sharpening systems. Edge Pro clones or copies, the lansky system, and none were all that impressive. Actually they were awkward with some blades, but got the job done. I had seen this flip/rotate system years ago, and they were a bit out of my budget. Finally these have come down in price about the same time as my last Edge Pro clone got a stripped nut.I will say that this is the one to get. The clamping and flipping of the blade makes doing both sides of the edge so much simpler, and I think more accurate. I got my EDC out and just using a 400 to 600 grit stone, I put a fast sharp edge on it. Tomorrow I will get out one of my hunting knives that I use to remove hides and see about going beyond a spooking sharp edge, but put on a mirror finish with the 1500 grit stone, then with paper and some silver polish.

    All in all, a very good sharpener. I would change out the adjustment screws as they are not very easy to use and it would be nice if there were some preset detents for common sharpening angles like 17.5 degrees and 25 degrees.

    This redesign is a huge improvement on Ruixin's previous models. The changes addressed all the issues I had with the previous models. Everything is held firmly with no slipping. The best improvements are the nylon guide ball which holds the angle solidly, the 360 degree rotating head, and the knife clamping system. I'm not a fan of the large handle, but it doesn't negatively impact the operation of the unit. This a great, affordable alternative to the more costly sharpening systems.
